Social identity-That part of an individual’s self-concept that derives from knowledge of membership in a social group, together with the value and emotional significance of that membership.
Social comparison-A theory emphasizing that people evaluate their own abilities and opinions by comparing themselves to others.
Self-evaluation maintenance theory-social comparison and jealousy more likely when another out performs us on an ego-relevant task. A variant of social comparison theory that says when close others do better than we do on things that are important to us, we may experience social comparison jealousy.
